Vic Fangio was hired as the Denver Broncos' new head coach, leaving a big void in Chicago.

With Vic Fangio off to take over as the head coach of the Denver Broncos, the Chicago Bears announced Friday that former Colts head coach Chuck Pagano would be the team's new defensive coordinator. "He is a man of high character and has a passion for the game that will no doubt add to the culture we have already started building at Halas Hall". Before that, Pagano had served as the Ravens' defensive coordinator and worked as a secondary coach for the Ravens, Raiders and Browns.

Pagano, 58, was the Colts' head coach from 2012-'17, compiling a 53-43 record and leading Indianapolis to three playoff appearances. In his six seasons in Indianapolis, the Colts won two AFC South titles and advanced to the AFC championship game in 2014.

Fangio may be interested in bringing multiple staff members with him to his new gig, and Pagano could want to bring his own coaches in anyway. Back in 1987, Pagano took his first legitimate coaching position with Boise State as their linebackers coach.

Pagano only has three seasons of experience as defensive coordinator, and only one at the National Football League level with the Baltimore Ravens.

During his four seasons in Baltimore, Pagano's defenses allowed the second-fewest points per game and the second-fewest net yards in the NFL.

He inherits the league's third-ranked defense and top run-stopping unit of 2018.
