The Jets are reportedly considering two former head coaches to be their defensive coordinator under new head coach Adam Gase.

Williams was let go by the Browns after being passed over for the head-coaching job this week. He took over for fired Browns coach Hue Jackson mid-season and led the team to a 5-3 record in the interim role.

The Jets were also considering former Broncos coach Vance Joseph for the position. In 2018, Denver ranked 13th in points allowed and 22nd in total yards allowed. Joseph is expected to be named the defensive coordinator of the Cardinals. That season, Miami ranked 29th in yards allowed and 18th in points allowed. Williams has previous head coaching experience which is a big plus. Prior to being hired by the Browns in 2017, Williams worked with the Redskins (2004-07), Jaguars (2008), Saints (2009-11), Rams (2012, 2014-16) and Titans (2013).
