OU junior-to-be Austin Kendall entered the NCAA's transfer portal Friday, a sign that he sees his chances of starting as greater elsewhere. The university may also be looking to recruit another transfer quarterback. Kendall was, according to coach Lincoln Riley, "neck and neck" with Kyler Murray during their preseason battle.

Of the quarterbacks now on the roster, Kendall figures to be in best position to earn the starting job at the outset of next season, but the Sooners could also elect to bring in a transfer to bridge the gap between Murray and five-star prospect Spencer Rattler.

In addition to Kendall, Oklahoma's only other scholarship quarterback is redshirt freshman Tanner Mordecai, who played in two games early in 2018.

In two seasons with the Sooners, Kendall saw mostly garbage-time work while backing up Heisman Trophy winners Baker Mayfield and Kyler Murray.

He completed 71 percent of his passes in 2018 for 122 yards and a touchdown in the 2018 season.
