"They have been given a good opportunity, but have not produced the scores we need".

Shaun Marsh's seven-year Test career would be all but over with his axing while Australian vice-captain Mitchell Marsh and opener Finch were not part of Australia's XI for the fourth Test against India in Sydney.

Australia's landmark 2-1 loss to India marked the first time no Australian has scored a century in a home four-Test series.

Selectors also kept faith with their pace attack of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood and Pat Cummins, with veteran Peter Siddle also included.

Batsman Shaun Marsh has been dropped after scoring just one fifty in four matches against India as the tourists won a Test series in Australia for the first time.

Pucovski was the surprise call-up.

Pucovski, 20, has played just eight first-class matches and opted to take a break from the game late previous year to receive treatment for a mental health-related illness, shortly after scoring 243 for Victoria against Western Australia in the Sheffield Shield.

"Will Pucovski is an exciting young player who is making his mark in the Sheffield Shield", Hohns added.

Hohns, Justin Langer and Greg Chappell are now attempting to fix a misfiring top six during a two-month period in which domestic players can only make their case in Twenty20 cricket.

Despite his relative inexperience, Pucovski said he was ready to step up. To think that in two weeks time there is a chance I would play for my country is unbelievable.

Australia announced their squad for the upcoming two-Test series against Sri Lanka starting in Brisbane on January 24.

"You can't even use words to describe it".

Following a third recall to the Test arena, Renshaw understands the lay of the land and isn't over-complicating things despite the prospect of a bat-off in next week's CA XI tour game against Sri Lanka to secure his return.

Selectors, who had a 14-man squad to pick from for the SCG Test against India, are likely to keep their options open with another big group.

"I went alright there.it's so long ago, we haven't played a pink ball game for a while now", Labuschagne said.

Meanwhile, Renshaw played last of his 11 Tests in March-April 2018 when he had to fly to South Africa for the final Test after ball-tampering scandal broke out in Cape Town.
