Technically the Browns have yet to finalize a deal with new head coach Freddie Kitchens.

Kitchens hired 2 of his coordinators - special teams and defense - Friday.

Priefer is a second generation National Football League coach, as his father, Chuck Priefer - also a special teams coordinator, coached for several National Football League teams from 1984-2006.

The most high-profile additions will be the coordinator spots, and one has been filled as Tom Pelissero broke the news that the Browns will be bringing in former Minnesota Vikings specials teams coordinator Mike Priefer. His contract was up after the 2018 season and Priefer, who according to NFL Network was offered a contract to return to Minnesota, has made a decision to join the Cleveland Browns as their defensive coordinator.

The Vikings will now look for a special teams coordinator. Priefer denied the allegations and participated in sensitivity training after an independent investigation found enough cause to suspend him. Now he'll see if he's a good fit for defensive coordinator in Cleveland.

Wilks, a one-year coordinator with the Panthers before his one year as head coach of the Cardinals, was scheduled to interview with the Browns on Friday.

Meanwhile the search for offensive coordinator continues.

Wilks is interviewing with the Browns for their defensive coordinator vacancy, Adam Schefter of ESPN reports.
