The film's worldwide earnings now stand at $1.02 billion, Box Office Mojo reports, as it earned another $17.26 million domestically and $27.9 million internationally over the weekend.

Aquaman may have been knocked from the top of the domestic box office by The Upside this weekend, but Warner celebrating a major milestone today with the DC Extended Universe blockbuster crossing the billion dollar mark at the global box office.

'Aquaman' has now surpassed the box office take of Christopher Nolan's "The Dark Knight", and is on track to pass "The Dark Knight Rises" as the highest-grossing DC movie so far.

Only 36 other movies have made $1 billion at the box office, according to Forbes. It's still behind The Dark Knight Rises ($1.08 billion), however.

In the US, "Aquaman" only had a 23.2% drop in box office earnings on its second weekend, and while it may have dropped from 4,184 theatres to 3,863 theatres on its fourth weekend, it's still performing extremely well and will likely continue to do so.

Aquaman isn't just King of the Seven Seas.

Director James Wan responded to the news of Aquaman passing $1 billion, thanking the cast and crew of the film for the incredible achievement.

There's still one more country for Jason Momoa's Aquaman to conquer: The film won't open in Japan until February 8.
