The Reds boss has also suggested that the 29-year-old is now facing a race against time to be available for selection against Bayern Munich for the first leg of their Champions League last-16 clash on February 19th.

The Germany worldwide will be between the sticks when Bayern visit Liverpool in the Champions League last 16 first leg on February 19.

'I am fine, it's not that bad, ' Neuer told ESPN.

'It's the first game for me at Anfield, I'm looking forward to playing there, ' Neuer continued.

"For us, the Champions League is very important".

Neuer has been a doubt in the build-up to the game, Bayern's No 1 struggling with a finger injury that kept him out of the last two matches. It is a knockout tie, two finals.

Liverpool do not play again before they meet Bayern due to being out of the FA Cup, while the Germans travel to Augsburg in domestic action on Friday, before their trip to Anfield the following Tuesday.

Neuer said the opportunity to play at Liverpool's ground was an added incentive to return to fitness. "I think our medical [staff] will push me into goal and if everything is fine in training, I will play [against Liverpool]".

'Hopefully, it will be great night for us.

'We are all positive.

"But I don't think it was because of the Champions League".

Neuer, who won the Champions League with Bayern in 2013, has played every minute of this season's competition so far for the team, as they finished top of Group E unbeaten.
