Millennium Films has made a decision to put Red Sonja on hold amid renewed controversy surrounding director Bryan Singer, who has been accused of sexual misconduct and rape in an expose by a magazine.

According to Deadline, Millennium Films has chose to put the project on the back burner, telling the outlet that "the project is not on the slate at the moment and is not for sale at the EFM in Berlin". Millennium had plans to shoot Red Sonja in Bulgaria this year, but has dropped plans to do so, she added. It's unclear if Millennium will reconceive the project with a new director, stick with Singer, or keep this whole thing on the backburner for an extended period of time before the bad buzz dies down. Remarkably, Bohemian Rhapsody grossed $800,000,000 and was nominated for several awards, despite the allegations against Singer.

Millennium Films CEO Avi Lerner had released a controversial statement post the article and called it "agenda driven fake news". "In America people are innocent until proven otherwise". In a statement issued through Singer's attorney, he claimed this to be a "homophobic smear piece that he said was "conveniently timed" to take advantage of the success of Bohemian Rhapsody".

Coincidentally, the story from the outlet was published just one day after Bohemian Rhapsody received approximately five Academy Award nominations including Best Picture for both Rami Malek and the producer of the flick, Graham King. This has led to Mr Singer's suspended nomination. Fletcher came on board to direct in December after Fox fired Singer from the project after repeated absences from the set had forced the studio to halt production.

Red Sonja is a Marvel character based in the same universe as Conan the Barbarian. "I want [the accused] to be judged by the court".

Nothing about the project would seem like a fit for Singer, and yet initially, Millennium Films (the planned distributor for the film) appeared to take a strong stance in defense of the director. "We will continue to stand with survivors of sexual assault and join with other organizations in refusing to remain silent when it comes to protecting them".
