According to The Hollywood Reporter, the news was announced by Hulu and Paramount Television onstage at the Television Critics Association press tour early Monday. Since 2003, the project has been in the hands of multiple studios, including twice with Paramount.

Larson's scrupulously researched and endlessly compelling tome chronicles real-life serial killer Dr H.H. Holmes, who might not have gained the infamy of Jack the Ripper, but is alleged to have killed a slew of people around the time of the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago. Architect Daniel Burnham built it; serial killer Dr. H. H. Holmes used it to lure victims to his World's Fair Hotel, designed for murder.

There has been no word yet as to whether DiCaprio will be in front of the camera for the series.

According to variety.com, DiCaprio acquired the rights to the book almost a decade ago and planned to adapt it for a feature film in which he would portray Holmes. The transition into a streaming network series may change that approach. The show will simply be titled The Devil In The White City, and it " l be executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio and Martin Scorsese, along with Stacey Sher, Rick Yorn, Emma Koskoff, and Jennifer Davisson.
