José Mourinho is to host a football show on RT providing coverage of the Champions League.

Mourinho has been linked with returns to Real Madrid and Inter Milan as potential next managerial jobs.

"I am used to surprising people and I thought 'why not give it a go?' I'm going to talk about football on RT". Mourinho says in a promotional video filmed at an ice hockey rink posted on Twitter by RT Sports.

Mourinho was in Moscow earlier this month and hit the headlines after falling over as he performed a ceremonial puck drop at an ice hockey game.

Mourinho was sacked by United in December and the 56-year-old was replaced by Ole Gunnar Solskjær, who has since won 10 and drawn one of his 11 games in charge.

The opening show will be broadcast after the first set of Champions League last 16 second-leg matches have been concluded, and Mourinho will continue his role with Russia Today until the 1 June final.

RT's reputation among Western audiences has always been controversial, with the broadcaster accused of being part of the Kremlin propaganda machine.

In 2017 the U.S. Justice Department made the channel register as a foreign agent of the Russian government, which it did under protest despite it being funded by the Kremlin. The channel is yet to receive a sanction.
