After the massive success of the Rings and Hobbit movies from Peter Jackson (forget that the last two Hobbit installments were just meh) as well as the upcoming Rings adaptation on Amazon, it really is the flawless time to tell Tolkien's personal story of how it all came together. This first trailer does a good job of teasing all sides to this story: The fantasy world that Tolkien imagined, the real flesh-and-blood people around him, and the nightmarish wartime experiences that would go on to shape the forces of evil throughout his books. Nicholas Hoult leads the cast that also features Lily Collins, Colm Meaney, Anthony Boyle, Patrick Gibson, Tom Glynn-Carney, Craig Roberts, Laura Donnelly, Genevieve O'Reilly, Pam Ferris and Derek Jacobi.

Tolkien is set to explore that, taking a look at the author's younger years growing up as an orphan and forming a "fellowship" with his friends, and then having those bonds tested with the start of World War I.

Tolkien's immersive epics and richly realized world creation made his novels an worldwide sensation and the author's detailed guide to his world (with maps, drawings, lore and language references to enhance the depth of the fantasy) inspired modern myth-makers like George Lucas, James Cameron, George R.R. Martin, and, of course, Peter Jackson, who guided Gandalf, Bilbo, Smaugh, and all the rest of Tolkien's creations to the screen in historic fashion. Producers are Peter Chernin, Jenno Topping and David Ready of Chernin Entertainment, along with Kris Thykier of Archery Pictures.

"Tolkien" opens in theaters May 10.
