According to Variety, veteran actor Josh Brolin has joined the movie to play Gurney Halleck.

For the past few weeks, it's been one Dune casting announcement after another: Stellan Skarsgard, Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Javier Bardem, all joining the already-cast Dave Bautista, Charlotte Rampling, Timothee Chalamet, and Rebecca Ferguson.

Chalamet is playing the noble Paul Atreides, while Brolin will be his Warmaster, Gurney Halleck - a role previously played by Patrick Stewart in David Lynch's version of the story.

Denis Villeneuve (Blade Runner 2049) is directing and co-writing the script with Eric Roth and Jon Spaihts. After Atreides is betrayed, he leads a rebellion to restore his family's reign. The 2000 Dune mini-series, meanwhile, remains one of the highest-rated programs on the Sci-Fi channel. The new Dune may begin filming as soon as this year, although a release date has not yet been announced.

Legendary acquired the film and television rights to Frank Herbert's novel in November 2016 with Arrival director Denis Villeneuve officially signing on to helm a feature film reboot in February 2017. Herbert's son, Brian Herbert and novelist Kevin J. Anderson collaborated on a number of Dune books as well. Most recently, he appeared as the swaggering Cable in Deadpool 2, and will next reprise his role as the villainous Thanos in this summer's Avengers: Endgame (where we're hoping he gets his ass stomped, that asshole).
