The battle for a place in the NBA Playoffs begins to intensify just a few days before the All-Star break. The Pistons are three games ahead of the Wizards in the race for the Eastern Conference's No. 8 seed. Washington is fourth in the Eastern Conference scoring 49.5 points in the paint per game, led by Bradley Beal averaging 10.0. While the Wizards can score at a higher pace than Detroit, the Pistons can lock in defensively and they will have a big advantage on the glass tonight. The Wizards won the last meeting between these two squads 101-87 on January 21.

The Wizards have won their last two games against the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Chicago Bulls, and arrive with a renewed roster and a fresh attitude. They have won and covered in three straight and now host a Washington team that has no playoff aspirations. With the win, Detroit improved to 25-29 overall and 16-13 at home. And in the end, Blake Griffin and Co. certainly did get the last laugh with a 121-112 win over Washington.

Drummond, who is averaging 26.3 points during the streak, also contributed 17 rebounds and four steals against Washington. Bobby Portis supplied 24 points off the bench, hitting six 3-pointers, and Trevor Ariza piled up 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists.

Another player who seems to feel increasingly comfortable with his role in the team and it shows, is Jackson, who has nearly a month averaging excellent numbers in points, assists and field goal percentage, compared to what he had been doing since the beginning of the season until recent games. Drummond and Reggie Jackson (16 points on the night), scored 10 and nine points, respectively, in the frame to put the Pistons back into control on their home floor. If the Pistons want to achieve important things this season, this must happen on a consistent basis.

This does nothing but excite all of us who are fans of this team.
