After a testing first half, the Belgian transformed into one of their biggest attacking threats after the break, providing a sumptuous ball for Son's goal and continuing to send in terrific crosses as the second half progressed - and to top it all off, Vertonghen got on the scoresheet with under 10 minutes to go.

"The first half was very hard, first of all because we never felt the confidence to play", said Pochettino post match.

Son started a brilliant second-half display in the last-16 first leg at Wembley by opening the scoring from Jan Vertonghen's excellent cross, before Vertonghen and substitute Fernando Llorente put Mauricio Pochettino's men on course for the last eight in the final seven minutes.

In the absence of Harry Kane and Dele Alli, the focus has fallen on Son and he has not shirked the responsibility, with his 47th-minute strike against Dortmund setting them on their way to an impressive victory on Wednesday.

"But after we fixed some problems, showing them some clips at half-time and talking a little about different positions - offensive and defensive - and trying to help the team to perform better".

"The first half we played really well". Our feeling was we never felt the confidence to play.

"It's a massive victory and the players deserve all the credit because they were fantastic".

"It's only the first leg, the first half of the tie". "Next time when Son scores, I go to the dressing-room, shower and wait for the game [to end]", Pochettino said with a smile.

"Son was fantastic again, he's doing fantastic".

"Of course we are happy now because it's a good result but there's still a lot of work to do". "He translates good energy and his performance in every game is improving".

"3-0 is a very good result but at the same time we have to think that we have to finish the job". I am happy with the performance and the circumstances we have. I want to congratulate my players.
