The BC Hydro website shows more than 3,000 customers remain without power, a lot of them on eastern Vancouver Island, but Hydro says crews are making steady progress following weekend storms, although challenging conditions are complicating efforts.

The snowfall warning first announced Sunday and renewed for two more days is finally over, but flurries are still in the forecast, it turns out.

A long period of snowfall is forecast with total amounts of 15 to 25 centimeters expected.

Environment Canada says a winter storm is also lashing the southeastern corner of the province and could blanket some areas with as much as 35 centimetres of snow before the system passes late Tuesday.

"This second disturbance off southwest Vancouver Island is spreading snow to virtually the entire South Coast this morning", read the warning. "The snowfall will gradually taper off this afternoon into the early evening as low centre weakens".

He says there is one benefit - because of the cold, the snow is fluffier and lighter than the usual heavy, wet snow that falls in Metro Vancouver.
