For the second consecutive offseason, the 49ers are adding a free agent running back.

One year after signing Jerick McKinnon, the 49ers have reportedly agreed to terms with former Atlanta Falcons running back Tevin Coleman on a two-year, $10 million deal, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter. He racked up a career-high 800 yards and averaged 4.8 yards per carry, which was tied for the 15th-best mark in the National Football League last season, according to ESPN.

He tallied 2,340 rushing yards and 1,010 receiving yards with 29 total touchdowns in four years in Atlanta. He scored 11 touchdowns during Atlanta's run to the Super Bowl in 2016, including a career-best 55-yard touchdown run in a 33-16 win over the Carolina Panthers.

Next season, Freeman will return to starting at running back and Ito Smith will back him up. San Francisco reportedly made a late push for Le'Veon Bell before he chose to sign with the New York Jets, so the team was in the hunt for another running back. Matt Breida led the team in rushing but dealt with an ankle injury most of the year. With McKinnon coming off a torn ACL, Coleman gives the 49ers some flexibility and depth. He adds another layer of versatility to an already talented backfield.
