"Our community is exasperated by Rep. Omar's unfulfilled promises to listen and learn from Jewish constituents while seemingly simultaneously finding another opportunity to make an anti-Semitic remark and insult our community", the head of a major Jewish group in Minnesota - who was among the Jewish leaders who met with Omar to help her understand why her "dual loyalty" comments were hurtful, inappropriate, and downright scandalous, told The Hill.

"In a conversation on Facebook, I used some language that I see now was insensitive".

"There's definitely some buzz going around about it, but it's more a buzz of is anyone talking about finding someone to run against her than it is anyone saying they're going to run against her or contemplate it".

Sisa said in her apology, "At a time when so many communities in our country feel under attack by the president and his allies, I absolutely recognize that we need to address these issues with greater care and sensitivity to their historical resonance, and I'm committed to doing that in the future". A top staffer to Bernie Sanders' presidential campaign apologized Tuesday for invoking "a dual allegiance" of Jewish Americans while defending Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn.

A Jew from Sisa's home state of Arizona pointed out the history of the "dual allegiance" slur in the Facebook thread - from the hangings of Jews in ancient Persia to the 1492 purge of Jews in Spain to Nazi Germany.

"I'm asking not to rule out the history of this issue, but in the context in which this was said by Ilhan", she reportedly said during a Facebook thread discussing the violent history of the "dual allegiance" trope against Jewish people. Sisa replied: "I think I would probably have to ask him?"
