The last season of "Game of Thrones" is nearly here, and HBO has been careful to keep spoilers under wraps.

We knew from a previous leak that the last few episodes would be way longer than usual, but to see HBO go all-out for the finale is heartening - after all, Game of Thrones season 8 needs to give us an huge amount of closure after all these years. But HBO finally revealed another tidbit in a press release Friday: how long the episodes will be. Episode two, airing Sunday, April 21, is 58 minutes long. Of course, the most important thing here is that the episodes are the right length - enough for character moments, those epic battles we're all waiting for, and without bulk for the sake of bulk.

Previously, it was rumored each of the six episodes could be as long as most movies.

Though Game of Thrones will be all wrapped up in just a couple of months' time, HBO isn't done with the franchise just yet.

That means just the opening two episodes will come in at the usual one-hour mark, with the final four chunks receiving boosted runtimes.

Another pointed out that HBO has counted "making of material" shown at the end of the episodes in their official runtimes, raising questions about how much of these times are devoted only to the story.

Some fans will still be disappointed given the previous rumors that all six episodes of Game of Thrones eighth season would hit the 90-minute point. "When brands and television series alike are able to move beyond their primary platform and spill into popular culture, we see inspiration".
