Earlier, the AIFF had expressed keenness to host the tournament after the success of the FIFA Under-17 World Cup for men in 2017.

The FIFA council confirmed on Friday that they would work with Qatar over a possible expansion that would be achieved with the introduction of a co-host, with a feasibility study showing it can be done.

The training was to gauge whether to use the technology at the tournament, with world football's governing body approving its use at a Fifa Council meeting in Miami on Friday.

'We hope that all the best teams will participate and we've had some very positive discussions with UEFA'.

The signatories said they are "firmly against any approval of a revised Club World Cup at this point in time and confirm that no ECA clubs would take part to such a competition". The ECA had no immediate comment after the decision.

Infantino still wants to move ahead with his plans and the Federation Internationale de Football Association council will likely allow the idea to move forward to June's Congress which would be asked to endorse the plan.

The move away from the traditional 32 teams which will see 80 matches instead of 64 - the notion was originally slated to come into effect for the 2026 tournament in North America - means one or more other countries will be asked to help Qatar stage the shortened 28-day event which is scheduled to kick off in November 2022.

The ECA represents 232 European clubs, including all the leading teams who would be expected to feature in a Club World Cup.

The revamped FIFA Club World Cup will be played during the global match calendar slot that corresponded to the FIFA Confederations Cup. The Club World Cup would be held June 17-July 4, while the African Cup of Nations and CONCACAF Gold Cup could be played July 5-July 31.

The announcement comes in the face of considerable opposition from European clubs. Recent reports have indicated the Confederations Cup, a competition between confederation champions on the national team front that previously served as a trial run for the following year's World Cup host, will not take place any longer.

Infantino said five members of the Council did not attend the meeting, the first for FIFA's leadership in the US since American law enforcement arrested numerous sport's top officials in 2015 on corruption charges.

Infantino also provided an update on organization of the upcoming Women's World Cup, saying that the preparations were going well.

Video assistant referees have also been approved for this year's Women's World Cup, which starts in France on June 7.
