Officials in Sarpy County, south of Omaha, said Saturday that power may be shut off to communities along the Missouri, Platte and Elkhorn rivers for safety reasons.

High water also pushed waterways to record levels across South Dakota, Iowa and Minnesota.

The Grand River Conservation Authority has issued a combined flood warning and watch across its watershed with mild temperatures expected on Thursday and Friday.

Wisconsin's governor declared a state of emergency Friday as flooding worsened, and Iowa's governor expanded an emergency proclamation issued a day earlier. The Coast Guard also requested all river-vessel operators create as little wake as possible between St. Joseph downstream to Kansas City to minimize levee damage.

Since issuing that statement, the Weather Service itself had to evacuate due to a dike failure on the Platte River.

Many central Iowa rivers may see moderate flooding into next week from the rain and snowmelt runoff, the weather service said. Flood stage is 17 feet, and the river is forecast to rise above flood stage by Wednesday evening and crest near 20 feet by after midnight tonight.

The flood information service says: "We believe there is a possibility of flooding for low lying land and roads around the Rivers Beal, Roch and their tributaries. I have no place to go", said Dale Chaney of Percival. Video from the Nebraska State Patrol shows cattle stranded on islands after floodwaters cut off their escape.

Travelers already on I-29 North Drivers who are now heading north on I-29 should use United States 71 North north of St. Joseph to I-35 if possible.

Owne also advised residents to monitor river levels through the weekend on the River Gauge website.

"Turn around, don't drown when encountering flooded roads".
