After the break, City were struggling to find a way back into the game and it was after the introduction of Raheem Sterling and Sergio Aguero from the bench that they started to threaten.

Sergio Aguero swooped late to edge an FA Cup thriller at Swansea City in Manchester City's favour on Saturday.

However, Pep Guardiola rallied his men to fight back in the second half and Bernardo Silva pulled the reigning Premier League champions back into the match.

A few minutes later, United States global Cameron Carter-Vickers was judged to have fouled Raheem Sterling in the box, even though he won the ball and only then seemed to bring Sterling to the ground.

"People say we are going to win three or four titles and the day we drop one competition they say it's a big failure for Manchester City", the former Spain global told BBC Sport. "I don't like to lose games when the decisions are wrong but the referees don't want to make wrong decisions, but they must be helped".

Guardiola's side will meet Premier League rivals Tottenham in this year's quarter-finals, with either Italian champions Juventus or Dutch champions Ajax awaiting the winners in the last four.

VAR cameras are installed at all Premier League grounds, so the facilities are used by the FA during their Cup games.

The Red Devils were handed a red card following a reckless challenge by Victor Lindelof on 83 minutes, but the Video Assistant Referee overturned decision and the defender was only handed a yellow card.

"If it is not penalty, and it is offside like the people say, I'm sorry", Guardiola said.

"It means a lot because we know how big Wolves were in the 1950s and 1960s and there are people in the stadium who have memories of that. Against Arsenal, we just couldn't score and today was poor, the poorest we've played", he said.
