But over the past decade, Marvel's post-credits scenes have become an institution.

But suddenly, the pager Nick Fury used in the Infinity War end-credits scene runs out of battery.

The second post-credit scene does not reveal anything - except, if you count it, the sense of humour of Captain Marvel's writers.

The remaining Avengers, Captain America, Black Widow, Bruce Banner, and James Rhodes are in their lab.

We see Nick Fury planning for a permanent force to deal with the threat of alien invasion.

Captain Marvel stars Academy Award® victor Brie Larson (Carol Danvers/Captain Marvel), Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury), Ben Mendelsohn, Djimon Hounsou (Korath), Lee Pace (Ronan), Lashana Lynch, Gemma Chan (Minn-Erva), Algenis Perez Soto, Rune Temte, McKenna Grace, Kenneth Mitchell (Joseph Danvers), with Clark Gregg (Phil Coulson), and Jude Law.

This is the first time Captain Marvel is on screen with Captain America, who many believe she will replace. Thi alludes to the fact that Fury and Marvel have been in communication for years. That overshadowing certainly could still happen, but the frankness of this scene - the lack of big dramatic buildup for this meeting - suggests a quieter integration with the existing cast. As fans head to cinemas, some want to know what's in store before they take their seat.

Or this scene might actually come later in Endgame.

The first post-credits scene lands us in the present day, in the aftermath of Thanos' snap.

Captain Marvel will be released in theaters on March 8, 2019. How do we know he never pushed it before? We know who she is, what Nick Fury means to her, and how he got that beeper.

The Tesseract has appeared in some form (including a hologram, a diagram, and when its casing was smashed, as the Space Stone that makes up part of Thanos' Infinity Gauntlet) in half the existing MCU movies, mostly as a power source. Set in the 1990s, "Captain Marvel" is an all-new adventure from a previously unseen period in the history of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. But Goose swallowing it and barfing it back into Fury's hands (metaphorically, thank goodness) puts it back with S.H.I.E.L.D.in the 1990s, where it needed to be ahead of the action in The Avengers in 2012.

Costumes we don't see include her Warbird and Binary outfits, though when she reaches Binary mode we do see her hair light up with energy, giving us a similar effect without the whole skin turning red thing.
