Spanning 160,000 square feet, it is the biggest of the high street retailer's 365 stores across Europe and the US.

The newly-crowned largest fashion retail store in Birmingham, UK, opened its doors for the first time at 10 a.m. on Thursday 11 April, and customers were eager to be among the first to experience their local five-floor clothing paradise.

Guinness World Records adjudicator Pravin Patel attended the official opening of the store.

The store also offer shoppers the opportunity to donate pre-loved clothes and shoes - of any brand - for recycling.

And for sartorial sorts yearning for something a touch more bespoke, a custom lab will print personalised T-shirts and other garments.

The store is so big that it employs 1,000 people, with 500 new jobs being created as many staff moved from the now-closed former outlet in the city.

Primark's retail director for the UK & Northern Europe, Simon Gibbs, said: "Primark is proud to be a part of the fabric of Birmingham".

"We're proud to bring this great store and everything it has to offer, to Birmingham". U.S. retailer Nordstorm plan to open a flagship store within Central Park Tower in New York City, reportedly measuring approximately 285,000 ft². The employees at Birmingham High Street will also enjoy a new "comfortable, open and modern back of house area", with a kitchen and bright décor in their own Recharge Café.
