The Blitzboks needed a strong second-half performance if they were to claw their back into the tie.

Fiji's Aminiasi Tuimaba scored a try and received a yellow card during the Singapore final.

The Blitzboks remain fourth on the overall standings after eight rounds, 24 points behind leaders USA.

Kurt-Lee Arendse, playing from the replacements bench, Angelo Davids and Ryan Oosthuizen scored tries for South Africa, but Selvyn Davids landed only one conversion meaning Fiji still led 19-17 with two minutes to play.

South Africa's Selvyn Davids slotted the winning penalty in the Singapore final. The series will next head to London (May 25-26) before the finale in Paris (June 1-2).

Josua Vakurunabili, Meli Derenalagi, Aminiasi Tuimaba and Vilimoni Botitu were also selected in the Singapore Sevens Dream Team.

Will Edwards helped England to a 14-7 lead at the break, and further tries from Harry Glover and Mike Ellery sealed victory.

England is pooled with New Zealand, Scotland and the unnamed 16th team in Pool C, while US leads Pool D with Australia, Wales, and Spain.

South Africa then swept aside Samoa in the quarter-final before another dominant display against the United States of America in the semi-final to set up a final against the Islanders.
