Leafs forward Nazem Kadri suspended for remainder of first round

Toronto will need their goaltender to stay strong if they want a shot at retaking the series lead and with most of the bounces seemingly going in the favor of the Bruins in Game 2 look for that to even out a bit even though we can also expect a bit of a regression in Andersen's play in this one. I think he should be suspended, and I don't think game circumstances can really play into his punishment, but as far as the Toronto Maple Leafs and their fans go, I think Kadri should avoid harsh judgement. I'm just hoping they come back negative. That has helped them offset the fact that they have allowed 3.40 gpg over the same stretch.

Danton Heinen and Patrice Bergeron had the other goals for Boston, which flexed its muscle following Thursday's lacklustre effort.

The Stanley Cup Playoffs present a very fine line between justified criticism of a player or team, and diving head-first into hot-takery and irrational overreactions.

Given his all-around play he is an absolute steal under the salary cap on a team that needs every possible steal it can get given its contract situation at the top of the roster.

How did we get here? Tuukka Rask stopped 30 shots, while Marchand added an assist.

All of that puts a ton of pressure on Kadri and the Maple Leafs whenever he does return to the lineup, whether it is this postseason or next season. He is presumably still dealing with an illness that kept him out of Game 2. During the regular season, Boston ranked 3rd in the league in power play conversions at 25.9% and 16th in penalty kill at 79.9%.

The real issue started near the end of the second period. This is Kadri's second playoff suspension in as many years, with last year's taking place in the first round as well.

Bruce Arthur of the Toronto Star: Toronto Maple Leafs forward Nazem Kadri will have his in-person hearing today. They just can not build any momentum, but at least they have grabbed home-ice advantage in this series.

Kadri, you may remember, was suspended for three games in last year's playoffs for a dirty hit on then Bruins winger Tommy Wingels.

Kadri was set to have an in-person hearing with the NHL's department of player safety Monday afternoon in NY to answer for his cross-check to the head of Bruins winger Jake DeBrusk in the third period of Boston's 4-1 victory in Game 2 that tied the series 1-1. We're in a best-of-5 now, we've got to dig in.

Mike Babcock speaks with the media following tonight's game. Boston has scored five goals and allowed five.

April 09, 2016 Missed the last 4 regular season games (suspended by nhl).

For the Bruins, Tuukka Rask is 1-1 with a 2.02 GAA and.937 save percentage. The Maple Leafs have gone 23-18 here at home and they have averaged 3.56 gpg and have allowed 3.00 gpg in those games. Debrusk didn't receive a penalty on the play.

Steve Simmons of the Toronto Sun: It appears to be the time for the Toronto Maple Leafs to move on from forward Nazem Kadri.

"I didn't think we executed as well, weren't as crisp with the puck, and that didn't allow us to generate as much in the forecheck like we did in Game 1", Toronto forward John Tavares said.
