She's being sought amid a "lockout" at more than 20 Colorado schools including Columbine, which in four days will reach the 20th anniversary of the April 1999 massacre in which two gunmen entered the school and killed 12 students and a teacher. "Children are safe. Deputies are at the schools".

Students wearing backpacks came out the main door at Columbine at about 2.55pm local time, soon after school officials announced that students in all the schools put on lockdown were safe and would be dismissed at their normal times.

Some schools released their students after additional security was called in and canceled evening activities or moved them inside.

Bilstein's wife, Patricia, said she worked at Bay Harbor Elementary and Middle School where Pais was a student.

"Last night, Sol Pais traveled to Colorado & made threats". The FBI and other authorities are looking for an 18-year-old woman who is believed to be connected to the lockouts and who is considered armed and risky, according to the FBI.

Authorities issued a security warning to schools throughout the Denver area late on Tuesday. "There may be some connection to Columbine but it wasn't a specific directed threat towards Columbine".

According to the Post, the Colorado Department of Education followed up by urging all schools in the Denver area to go into lockout status. As the district prepares for the day's memorial events, it is fending off an onslaught of curious strangers who trespass in the parking lot of the high school - sometimes more than 30 people in a single day. Some say they just want to pay their respects, but others claim they are in love with the shooters - or sometimes that they have been reincarnated with the shooters' souls. The lockdown comes a mere days before the 20th anniversary of the deadly shooting that ravaged Columbine High.

They include the Douglas County School District, Aurora Public Schools, Jefferson County Public Schools and Cherry Creek Schools.

Pais is a white female, 5-foot-5, with brown hair, and she was last seen wearing a black T-shirt, camouflage trousers as well as black combat boots.

They didn't say where she traveled from.

"Any threats involving columbine, or our schools, we take at an elevated rate, so, we're always aware of the situation here", said John Hickenlooper. Authorities requested the lockout in Jefferson County on Tuesday afternoon as they searched for the suspect, whose description was released on Twitter with a warning not to approach her. The students walked to crosswalks and buses parked near the entrance. Almost 20 schools in Jefferson County went into 'lockout mode, ' meaning exterior doors are locked, but inside, operations and classes continue as normal.

The 20th anniversary of the shooting at Columbine is Saturday.
