Men with beards are 'dirtier than dogs'

"The researchers found a significantly higher bacterial load in specimens taken from the men's beards compared with the dogs' fur", Professor Andreas Gutzeit, of Switzerland's Hirslanden Clinic, said.

The results are pretty gross.

Instead, researchers found that the beards of all 18 of the men tested contained higher microbial counts while only 23 of the 30 dogs tested had similarly high microbial counts.

Seven of the men had so much beard bacteria, there was a risk of them getting sick.

Researchers actually found this disgusting information out by mistake, they were trying to find out if men could pick up dog diseases in their facial hair.

It might be time for men to clean up their act.

Researchers at Switzerland's Hirslanden Clinic found almost half of all sampled beards had bacteria that was risky to human health.

Who let the beards out?

Scientists also wiped down the MRI scanner after examining the dogs and found a "significantly" lower bacteria count compared with levels after human use.

"I don't believe that beards in themselves are unhygienic".
