Future PlayStation games will be released on PS4 and PS5 at the same time. Aside from graphical benefit, Cerny hinted that the ray-tracing GPU will also include a "custom unit for 3D audio", that can similarly trace in-game sound back to its source.

Extremely fast high-end custom SSD storage faster than any solution now available for PC: Spider-Man load times on PS4 Pro: 15 seconds → 0.8 seconds on next-gen PlayStation.

In a meeting with Wired, Cerny also explained that the console would definitely not be released in 2019, and demonstrated why this is a true next-generation machine, rather than a PS4 upgrade in the vein of the PS4 Pro.

We're waiting patiently for news of the next generation of consoles, but that news is slow to trickle through.

The Solid State Drive included will dramatically improve loading times, with Marvel's Spider-Man's open world fast-travel loading up in less than a second on a dev kit compared to 15 seconds on the Pro.

Discussing the SSD, Cerny said "the raw read speed is important, but so are the details of the I/O [input-output] mechanisms and the software stack that we put on top of them".

Sony has confirmed the hardware specs for the PS5, their next-generation console. If that sounds impressive, you haven't seen anything yet.

In a recent interview, Sony revealed officially for the first time that they do have separate internal content guidelines that developers must follow in order to get their games approved for PlayStation 4. It will also have support for 8K TVs, and probably some other features that Sony is keeping to itself.

Here are the confirmed hardware specs and summary of the features of PS5 via ResetERA. It's possible Sony itself has not yet made a final decision; the platform holder could always sell the box at a loss if it believes it to be necessary, which would mean a cheaper price. Ray Tracing allows for far better, more dynamic in-game lighting. However, what Microsoft showcases with its upcoming Xbox Scarlett remains to be seen.

Four years in development so far.

While more and more rumors and reports regarding Sony's next-gen console, which we assume will be called the PS5, has been making the rounds, we now have our first official PS5 info and it comes from Sony nonetheless!

We'll be bringing you more news on the PlayStation 5 as it becomes available.
