But no one expected OR to add another five-star piece to the class late in spring.

Steele, who originally committed to Florida on national television during the All-American Bowl, was said to have considered OR his No. 2 choice.

The Gainesville Sun reported that Steele's decision to leave the Gators came as a result of a request that was not honored by the Florida staff. Steele reportedly requested to change dorm rooms in January shortly after he enrolled because he felt uncomfortable sharing a residence with four-star quarterback signee Jalon Jones.

After entering the transfer portal, Steele connected with Set The Expectation founder and sexual assault victims advocate Brenda Tracy and told her that a speech she gave at The Opening Finals in Dallas was part of his inspiration for taking a stand against sexual assault.

It didn't take former Florida cornerback Chris Steele long to settle on a new home.

Steele is the third player who has dropped out of UF's 2019 recruiting class, joining Jones and four-star linebacker Diwun Black, who will be enrolling in a junior college this summer due to academic deficiencies.
