"We'll make a final decision this week and we'll announce this week", he told reporters at an unrelated, circus-like press conference held inside Trump Tower in Midtown.

Not surprisingly, that triggered a second salvo from Eric Trump, who charged NY has "gone to s**t" under the de Blasio administration. "Cut your emissions or we'll cut something you really care about: We'll take your money".

But at 5:18 p.m. ET Wednesday, high school journalist Gabe Fleisher - who authors a daily political newsletter - noticed that de Blasio had a event planned in Sioux City, IA this Friday.

All signs point to Mayor Bill de Blasio announcing his presidential run Thursday morning, ending months of speculation. The New York Daily News also reported that the Mayor is officially in for 2020.

"(3/4) @NYCMayor if you ever think there is an initiative that would be great for NY, I would be happy to come to city hall and visit you anytime. "I look forward to his presidential run being even less successful than his time as mayor... if that's even possible".

"Spare me?" Trump asked. "Crime is up, the men & women of the NYPD detest you, homelessness is rampant, our streets are dirty and people are leaving our city in record numbers", Trump wrote on Twitter.

De Blasio hit back again: "I guess lying on Twitter runs in the family!"

Seventy-six percent of registered NY voters told Quinnipiac in April they wanted de Blasio to stay put at City Hall, while only 18 percent said they would like to see him mount a White House bid.
