Odell Beckham Jr.'s attendance habits are the topic of conversation this week in Cleveland. Beckham participated on the first day of OTAs Tuesday, but was gone again Wednesday.

Still, his decision to stay on his own only enhances the knock on Beckham that he's not team-oriented.

Echoing the proclamation from his new star wideout, Browns coach Freddie Kitchens also invoked the name of the hallowed New England Patriots as the goal for his team.

"I communicate with Duke often or a few times, a couple times a week probably, " Kitchens said after practice Wednesday. I fully expect him to be here in minicamp. He appears to be in great shape physically and says he's in a good place mentally. "All of them are going to be ready to play". Stick to what is working, and for him, obviously, it has been working for a while. "You have to trust that he is going to be there when it matters, and we know who he is".

Beckham wasn't the only notable absence.

Beckham was traded to the Browns earlier this spring in the blockbuster deal that sent safety Jabrill Peppers, offensive guard Kevin Zeitler, a first-round and third-round pick to the Giants in exchange for Beckham and outside linebacker Olivier Vernon.

"There's no problem with Odell not being here", Kitchens said last month. He acknowledged some frustration two of his best players aren't practicing. "I'm not going to fool you and try to trick you into saying I'm happy-go-lucky fine with it". I want everybody here because I do think it is important to be here, but it is their option.

"They understand what they have to do once they come here". As long as everybody is on the same page as that, I'm fine as long as they are ready to play.
