Quiet mode is one of the new preferences available beginning Tuesday evening across the us for premium Uber rides, which means only Uber Black or Uber Black SUV rides.

"If you need to respond to emails or are in the mood for a nap, make your trip a quieter one with just one tap".

You can let your driver know if you're not in the mood to speak before he or she arrives by selecting "Quiet Mode" within the Ride Preferences menu.

San Francisco: For people who don't prefer chatty drivers, global ride-sharing major Uber is rolling-out "quiet mode" on its luxury services. You can not use this option with Uber X or pool rides, but hopefully that changes soon.

New features include help with your luggage, temperature control while you travel, an extended pickup period to account for an unexpected delay, premium support with a live agent if required, professionalism from the commercially licensed driver, and a guarantee of consistent vehicle quality.

The driver will have to wait up to 15 minutes for the rider, instead of the usual 1-5 minutes. What's more, Quite Mode's set of regulations are set at Uber's headquarters and will not be subject to market dynamics as is it the case with by-laws.

The company told TechCrunch that during the past three months they have done extensive research on driver perceptions, after which they came up with this new feature.

"We're looking to create more differentiation between the premium products and the regular products to encourage more trips", Uber product manager Aydin Ghajar told U.S. online publisher TechCrunch, stressing that Quiet Mode is "something that people have been asking for a long time". They are part of Uber's effort to draw users back to its pricier Uber Black service.

The features include steps to identify the right auto and a push notification to remind riders of the "Check Your Ride" steps just before their vehicle arrives, the ride-hailing company said.

The company is planning to launch a new tool for universities to provide service for students at odd hours when other options are limited.
