A server at the restaurant in Manchester, which has nine sites spread across the United Kingdom specialising in steaks, accidentally offered up the premium wine - a bottle of Château le Pin Pomerol 2001 - on Tuesday night. However, the official Twitter handle of British steak and seafood restaurant, Hawksmoor Manchester, said they hoped the customers had enjoyed it.

The waitress asked a manager, who was visiting from another store doing some training, if she could fetch it for her but she picked up the wrong bottle. "One-off mistakes happen and we love you anyway", @HawksmoorMCR tweets. "THEY LOOK PRETTY SIMILAR OK?!" the restaurant admitted.

"Sometime later another member of staff said, "Ooh, someone is drinking a very impressive wine, and at the bar!' That's when we realized".

The restaurant later tweeted that the customer, who has not been identified, "accidentally got given a bottle of Château Le Pin, Pomerol, 2001" and said it hoped they enjoyed their evening. Unfortunately, that was the only bottle the Manchester location of Hawksmoor had in stock.

Not wanting to cause a fuss the staff member "gently steered the customers toward another bottle of wine and kept quiet", he said.

On Cult Wines, a leading wine information website, the bottle is described thus: "A tremendous effort, this 500-case cuvée (one of Bordeaux's original garage operations) is better still in 2001 than it was in 2000. The customer didn't know and it was only afterward that one of the managers picked up what had happened", she added.

"I am going to tease her for this when she stops being so mortified", he added.

The Hawksmoor restaurant says the mistake occurred on a busy night.
