The global premiere for Rocketman happened overnight at the Cannes Film Festival in Cannes, and Taron Egerton has maintained his image of "perfect angel man" as he tied Sir Elton John's shoelace on the red carpet, performed a duet of the film's title song with Sir Elton at the film's gala party, and openly wept after the film ended.

The movie, starring Taron Egerton, tracks the singer's first steps in the music business, from his tentative tryouts on the piano as a child to his explosion onto the US scene and its drug and alcohol-fueled party world. At the end, Egerton came around the piano to hug John, and was teary eyed as the audience rose for a standing ovation.

Egerton, who plays the rock legend in the new film, joins in with the 72-year-old on the rousing redemption-filled chorus of the song, which will feature on Rocketman's end credits.

After the Cannes screening, John and his legendary songwriter, Bernie Taupin (played by Jamie Bell in the film) took to the stage to address the public.

"I didn't get involved in any of it", he said.

Expect to hear some dramatic changes of Elton's classics on the album: Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting has been turned into an ensemble piece, while I Want Love soundtracks a heart-breaking moment of conflict around a family meal. "... Many times as I watched the film, I wanted to go and give him a hug, like I could help him. I thought, 'God, you've been through a lot'". Its producers will be hoping that it can emulate the success of last year's Bohemian Rhapsody, the award-winning Queen biopic that broke box office records.
