No. 2 signal has been put on every port of Gujarat.

It lay centered at 8.30 am on Monday near latitude 12.5N and longitude 71.0E over east-central and adjoining south-east Arabian Sea and Lakshadweep area, about 240 km northwest of Aminidivi (Lakshadweep), 760 km south-southwest of Mumbai (Maharashtra) and 930 km south-southeast of Veraval (Gujarat), a release of the MeT department said. "The state authorities have been asked to take precautionary measures and fishermen cautioned against venturing into the sea for the next five days".

Cyclonic storm "Vayu" has intensified into severe cyclonic storm, the IMD said Tuesday.

The main risk with this storm is heavy rain and powerful winds that could gust up to 135 kilometres per hour.

The IMD has issued a warning for Saurashtra and Kutch region in Gujarat which would receive a widespread rainfall and heavy to very heavy showers in isolated areas on June 13.

After a review meet with District Collectors and officials, Additional Chief Secretary (Revenue) Pankaj Kumar said schools, colleges and anganwadis in coastal districts would remain shut on June 12 and 13. News agency PTI reported that the Gujarat government has already deployed personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) in coastal areas for relief and rescue efforts. "Those at sea, especially fishermen operating mechanised boats, are advised to return", Sanap said.

The government has made a decision to deploy 30 teams of the NDRF in the coastal districts.

Besides, we have called a meeting of all the defense forces. Wind speeds could reach up to 155 kmph during landfall in Gujarat.

Gujarat is at presently reeling under severe heat wave as the maximum temperatures in major cities, including Ahmedabad, hovering over 43 degrees Celsius since the last week of May.

The setting of monsoon, which usually happens around June 15, will be further delayed as the cyclonic storm could disturb its advancement. But as it got late to arrive in Kerala this year, it is expected to be delayed by a week in Gujarat.
