Logano Edges Busch, Truex in Overtime

Martin Truex Jr. and Kurt Busch essentially tried to tandem draft their way into the lead during the closing laps of the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series race at Michigan International Speedway on Monday, but that wasn't enough to overtake a dominant Joey Logano.

Joey Logano utilized a *strong* late-race restart to win the FireKeepers Casino 400, which originally was scheduled for Sunday but postponed to Monday because of inclement weather. I hit it when I got there, " Logano said. "A day like that, you don't get those days all the time". The best vehicle, the best team. He did what he's known to do, and he executed the restart perfectly. "There is nothing like bring a Ford to victory lane on their home turf, and Roger Penske's cars as well".

The win was the third consecutive for Ford at MIS.

Kevin Harvick, who started in the second row, had to pit near the end of the stage with a loose wheel.

"There's nobody better than Joey that I'd like to see on a green and white checkered controlling the race". "I had a blast".

Austin Dillon won the second stage of Monday's NASCAR Cup Series race, taking advantage of a cycle of pit stops in the final few laps.

Martin Truex Jr. was unhappy about the restart by Logano.

Brad Keselowski, Harvick, Ryan Newman, Ryan Blaney and Alex Bowman completed the top 10.

Initially it didn't appear Truex and Busch were going to be able to catch Logano, but with seven laps left the two began working together by drafting off one another and they quickly began to close the gap on Logano.

Keselowski's trouble came on Lap 114 when he was issued a pass through penalty served on Lap 118 for a safety violation during a pit stop. I was just going to push Truex straight through the 22 (Logano). It is kind of a miracle that we got back up to sixth to be quite honest.

"T.J. Majors, my spotter, spotted his butt off up there", said Logano, who has won three races at Michigan Int'l Speedway from the pole during his career.

This setup a NASCAR overtime finish.

If there's such a thing as indifferent controversy, it's what we got after Monday's NASCAR race at Michigan International Speedway. Kevin Harvick and Clint Bowyer won the two Cup races at MIS past year. However, he made an exit late in the race on Lap 129 after he tagged the wall on the exit of Turn 2... Chase Elliott finished 20th and ended his five-race streak of top-five finishes... Kurt Busch and Erik Jones have also been among the leaders.

What Else Happened: Today's big topic of conversation was how would the 2019 Cup Series rules package fair out.

Sunday's race was a washout. "Or maybe the rules are that you can just do whatever you want on restarts now".

Logano, the pole victor, held off Alex Bowman for his sixth stage victory of the season, breaking a tie with Kyle Busch for the most of any driver. Ford Motor Company has won half of the Cup events held at MIS as Ford (38) and Mercury (12) have combined to capture 50 of the 100 races...
