Austria's Dominic Thiem has extended an olive branch to Serena Williams after their media room misunderstanding at the French Open by offering to partner the American in mixed doubles at Wimbledon or the U.S. Open.

"Probably it was not Serena's mistake".

"As a way of putting it behind us, I could play mixed doubles with Serena at Wimbledon or NY", he said. "I find her achievements unbelievable, sensational".

Thiem, beaten in the men's French Open final by Rafael Nadal, now believes tournament organisers were to blame for the incident that saw him shunted out of the interview room where he had begun answering questions following his fourth-round win over Uruguay's Pablo Cuevas.

He accused the 23-time Grand Slam victor, who had just suffered her earliest exit at a major tournament in nearly five years, of having a "bad personality" and said he would have waited even for a junior player to finish.

"What I do not understand is that it blew up so much".

"I would like to make amends with her in Wimbledon or the US Open in mixed doubles".

"Wimbledon is special", the 25-year-old added. He retired midway through his opening round match against Cypriot Marcos Baghdatis past year. "Now I see good chances to get relatively far".
