People associated with the National Football League are grieving the loss of longtime Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen on Thursday after he passed away due to complications from Alzheimer's disease. The statement did not specify a cause of death.

Here are a few of the memories Bowlen racked up for the Mile High throughout the years.

Bowlen, elected to the Pro Football Hall of Fame this year, was the first owner in NFL history to have his team win 300 games - including playoffs - in three decades.

When the Broncos made their Super Bowl run in 1997, Bowlen coined the phrase "This one's for John!" which he used repeatedly in discussing the victory for then-QB John Elway, who spent the majority of his career fighting to earn a title and finally got two of them on the back end. "Heaven got a little bit more orange and blue tonight", the Bowlen family wrote in a statement released by the Broncos.

"My family and I are saddened by the loss of Pat Bowlen, and our hearts are with the Bowlen family and the entire Denver Broncos organization during this hard time". Bowlen served on 15 different NFL ownership committees, including his work as chairman of both the NFL Broadcasting Committee and NFL Management Council Executive Committee.

Elway, now the team's president of football operations and general manager, remembered Bowlen Friday morning. "He cared about you as a person, he cared about you as a player, and he gave you everything he had to help you succeed, but you always knew you were expected to care as much as he did".

"He was a tremendous mentor to me and a tremendous friend". He was a terrific leader.

"Other than his family, nothing meant more to Pat than making sure the Denver Broncos were successful". I will miss Pat greatly and will always treasure the times we had together. His wife, Annabel, would later reveal she too is battling the disease.
