"At this moment, [the suspects] are being interrogated and we will continue deepening the investigation to get to the truth about what happened", stated Jean Alain Rodriguez, the Chief Prosecutor, at the press conference.

The national police director, Maj. Gen. Ney Aldrin Bautista Almonte said one man who coordinated the attack was offered 400,000 Dominican pesos (around $7,800) to carry out the shooting.

Meanwhile, the father of another suspect in Sunday's shooting of Ortiz at a bar said his son is a member of gang of hired assassins and low-level drug dealers known as the Gilberts.

They promised, however, all those who targeted a man nearly universally beloved in the baseball-crazy Dominican Republic would be brought to justice.

This was the he original video showing David Ortiz being shot.

Surgeons in the Dominican Republic operated for six hours to fix his wounds before Ortiz, who ended his 20-year Major League Baseball career in 2016, was flown to Boston once he was in a stable condition on Monday before having further surgery.

We've received more good news on Big Papi.

Ortiz galvanized the city in the aftermath of the 2013 Boston Marathon bombing that left three people dead, bellowing through a megaphone at Fenway Park: "This is our (expletive) city!"

Prosecutors in the Dominican Republic said baseball superstar David Ortiz was the target of an $8,000 hit.

A sixth suspect was also being pursued in the shooting, which witnesses said was carried out by two men on a motorcycle and two other groups of people in cars.

Berks County District Attorney John Adams said he believes Luis Rivas-Clase to be the suspect wanted for a Reading, Pennsylvania, shooting in April 2018, although confirmation would have to come through a fingerprint match.

Both men have been arrested and the gun has been recovered.

The alleged gunman is seen on surveillance video exiting the auto before mounting the motorcycle. Tiffany Ortiz said early Wednesday that the former slugger was "making good progress towards recovery" at Massachusetts General Hospital. "David will continue to recover in the ICU and future updates on his condition will be provided when necessary", a statement said. According to court documents obtained by the Boston Globe, two men were caught on camera talking in a gray auto on a nearby street before they got on a motorcycle to ride towards the bar, where Ortiz was ambushed while out with friends in his native Santo Domingo.

The first suspect, Eddy Vladimir Feliz Garcia, was arrested immediately after the shooting and appeared in court Tuesday, charged as an accomplice to "attempted homicide" and "criminal association" in connection to the shooting, according to charging papers obtained by ABC News.

The document also revealed ineptitude, saying motorcycle driver Feliz Garcia was captured after he skidded and fell off his bike as the pair tried to flee. He was beaten bloody by enraged fans of Ortiz before they turned him over to the police.

The Dominican newspaper Diario Libre reported on Wednesday that Mirabal Acosta has been connected with a gang of drug dealers and assassins in Santo Domingo Este. Feliz Garcia's lawyer said his client was not aware of the plot to shoot Ortiz and unwittingly drove the shooter to the club.

Pedro Martinez, who also grew up in the Dominican Republic and spent more than a decade as Ortiz's teammate in Boston, broke down in tears discussing the incident on MLB Network.

According to his friends, Ortiz traveled the risky streets of the Dominican capital with little or no security, trusting his fans to protect him.

And with no individuals has it stirred up more emotions than those who grew up in the Dominican Republic and have traveled numerous same roads Ortiz did to reach the big leagues.
