Trump Has No Plans To Fire Kellyanne Conway: 'She's Been Loyal'

President Donald Trump revealed Friday that he will not fire senior adviser Kellyanne Conway over repeated Hatch Act violations.

"It looks to me like they're trying to take away her right of free speech - that's just not fair", he said.

The Office of the Special Counsel released a report Thursday recommending Conway be fired for repeatedly violating the Hatch Act, a statute that prevents federal employees from engaging in certain political activity.

Trump says of Conway, "she's got to have a right of responding to questions". "I think she's a tremendous person, she's loyal, she's a great person".

It came hours before White House Press Secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders said she is leaving the Trump administration after a turbulent tenure marked by attacks on the media, dissemination of false information and the near-disappearance of the daily press briefing.

The accompanying report goes on to cite examples of Conway ripping Trump's potential political opponents.

The White House is not bound by the recommendation of the OSC, which is run by Henry Kerner, a Trump nominee. This morning, he told Fox and Friends what he plans to do. It really sounds to me like a free speech thing. If Ms. Conway were any other federal employee, her multiple violations would nearly certainly result in removal from her federal position by the Merit Systems Protection Board. "Her actions thus erode the principal foundation of our democratic system - the rule of law".

"We respect his decision and, of course, the president has any option he'd like-to reprimand or not to reprimand", Kerner said. 'Given that Ms. Conway is a repeat offender and has shown disregard for the law, OSC recommends that she be removed from federal service, ' the office announced in a statement.

The White House immediately rejected the special counsel office's ruling and demanded that it withdraw its report.
