It was an apparent walk back from his earlier comments that he might not contact law enforcement in such a situation.

The video also includes a clip of ABC News anchor George Stephanopoulos asking the president if he would accept damaging information from foreign powers.

"If I thought anybody was incorrect or it was badly stated I'd report it to the attorney general, the Federal Bureau of Investigation, I'd report it to law enforcement absolutely", Trump told Fox News.

Those comments drew sharp criticism from Democratic lawmakers, who said Trump was giving Russian Federation a green light to interfere in the 2020 presidential election.

"I thought it was made clear", Trump said of his initial comments, made in an interview with ABC News, which caused an uproar.

"If somebody called from a country - Norway - [saying] 'we have information on your opponent, ' I think I'd take it", Trump continued.

The Clinton campaign, along with the Democratic National Committee (DNC), paid Fusion GPS during the 2016 election to compile opposition research on then-candidate Trump.

McGahn was a crucial witness for Mueller, spending hours with investigators and offering detailed statements about episodes central to the special counsel's investigation into possible obstruction of justice.

Some of the most damning crimes in the Mueller report come via former White House counsel Don McGahn, who was directed to obstruct justice by President Trump (but declined to carry out his illegal orders).

On the campaign trail, Trump once said: "Russia, if you're listening, I hope you're able to find the 30,000 emails that are missing". "I never suggested firing Mueller", he said.

Asked by Stephanopoulos why McGahn would lie under oath, Trump said: "Because he wanted to make himself look like a good lawyer, or, or he believed it because I would constantly tell anybody that would listen. that Robert Mueller was conflicted".
