Call it a case of mis-cake-n identity.

Mariah Carey or Marie Curie?

Apparently, her colleagues misunderstood her request, and instead gave her a cake with Marie Curie's face staring back at her. "It's Marie Curie, looking very festive". It happened to the cousin of Toronto writer Harriet Alida Lye, whose tweeted image of the resulting cake had north of 43,000 retweets and 200,000 likes as of Monday morning. They misunderstood, and this is the cake they made her instead.

Marie Curie (full name: Marie Skłodowska-Curie) was a physicist and chemist who fought against gender norms of the time to become the world's first female victor of the Nobel prize in 1903 for her work on radioactivity.

People are loving the mix-up on Twitter, and are even sharing their own bakery mishap stories.

We gotta say, Carey should be quite honored to be mistaken for the first woman to win a Noble (and still the only woman to do it twice). And Siobhan took it in good spirits. And the responses have been wonderful.

Siobhan told her colleagues she was hoping to get a Mariah Carey-themed cake for her upcoming birthday, reports The Mirror, only there was clearly a bit of a misunderstanding.
