Asked about the club's statement following Barcelona's signing of Griezmann, in which they demand the full 200 million, Cerezo said: "If the club has released that statement, it's because they have evidence".

Both Spanish clubs dominate the list for the ten players with the highest release clauses.

But now the saga is finally over, with Griezmann being announced as Barcelona's third arrival of the summer.

Barcelona announced in a statement on Friday: "FC Barcelona has paid the 120 million euro buyout clause to release Antoine Griezmann from Atlético Madrid". The two clubs met in Madrid last Thursday, but it quickly became apparent that Atletico would not accept a payment plan. The club posted Griezmann's photo wearing Barcelona's traditional home jersey as well. He didn't and was subsequently fined.

The buyout clause for the Frenchman, who rejected a move to FC Barcelona in 2018, has been set at €800 million.

Antoinne Griezmann's departure to Barcelona might leave a crater-sized hole in Atletico Madrid's lineup.

He rejected an offer from Barcelona a year ago and revealed his thought process in a documentary called The Decision.

"They've made a great signing", Cerezo confessed.

"Atletico de Madrid believes that the termination of the contract happened before the end of the last season due to facts, acts and demonstrations made by the player, and therefore has already initiated the procedures it has deemed appropriate to protect their rights and lawful interests", the club added.

The French soccer star began his senior career in 2009 with Real Sociedad, before joining Atletico in 2014.

The 2018 FIFA World Cup victor, Griezmann, 28, scored 185 goals in 459 club appearances. He also won the Europa League, the UEFA Super Cup and the Spanish Super Cup in that time.
