It's July 2019 in Washington, and President Donald Trump is again attacking Paul Ryan, a feud that might have died with the former House speaker's retirement in January.

The president's comments came after the former speaker criticized him in an upcoming book by Politico's Tim Alberta, titled "American Carnage".

Ryan reportedly told Alberta he couldn't stand another two years with Trump and called retirement an "escape hatch", according to excerpts obtained by The Washington Post.

In the book, "American Carnage", Ryan recalled his hard working relationship with the president.

"The only success Paul Ryan had was the time he was with me", Trump said, pointing to the GOP's tax cut bill. "Because, I'm telling you, he didn't know anything about government ..." All the time. We helped him make much better decisions, which were contrary to kind of what his knee-jerk reaction was.

Republican Presidential candidate, former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R) jokes with U.S. Rep Paul Ryan (C) (R-WI) during a pancake brunch at Bluemound Gardens on April 1, 2012, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. "When the people, the great congressmen wanted to go after the Dems for things that they did very badly, he wouldn't give subpoenas".

"We've gotten so numbed by it all", Ryan said in the book, according to Politico.

"He quit Congress because he didn't know how to Win", the president continued.

Following Ryan's retirement announcement previous year, Trump tweeted: "Speaker Paul Ryan is a truly good man, and while he will not be seeking re-election, he will leave a legacy of achievement that nobody can question. Now I think he's making some of these knee-jerk reactions".

"I told myself I gotta have a relationship with this guy to help him get his mind right", Ryan was quoted.

Speaker Paul Ryan is a truly good man, and while he will not be seeking re-election, he will leave a legacy of achievement that nobody can question. "All the time", Ryan said.

The Donald bashed Ryan in a series of tweets for failing the members of his caucus and not being able to pass certain policies after taking over John Boehner's spot.
