The United States Geological Survey reports the 4.6 quake struck at about 2:50 Friday morning, centered near Three Lakes.

The natural disaster measured 4.6 on the Richter magnitude scale and originated just north of Seattle in the Three Lakes region at 2:51 a.m.

Also Friday, there was a 4.9-magnitude natural disaster in Ridgecrest, CA., and a small 2.5-magnitude quake in Mexico City.

Shocking footage of those earthquakes showed food falling from the shelves of grocery stores and waves sloshing in residents' swimming pools.

No significant damages or injuries were reported to city infrastructure, according to Tacoma and Pierce County officials. Numerous viewers reported feeling the quake. "We are spooked and still awake", Rob Fuhriman told the station. The Washington State Department of Transportation said in a tweet that the agency would be inspecting bridges Friday morning, but had no reports of damage. The USGS said it received reports of people feeling the shaking from Vancouver to near Wenatchee, Washington.

An overnight quake with an epicentre around 65 kilometres north of Seattle was felt in British Columbia.

The quake struck as millions of people in Southern California are on edge and anxious about their safety after two large earthquakes and more than 4,000 aftershocks.

He said the quake did not have any connection to recent tremors in California, and that it was too shallow to have originated in the Cascadia subduction zone off the Washington coast, where "stress and strain has been building for a long time".
