New Mortal Kombat Movie Will Be R-Rated and Include Fatalities

An allegedly incomplete Mortal Kombat cast list suggests he'll be joined by people playing Kano, Sonya Blade, Raiden, and a new character called Cole Turner.

In a tweet posted today, Russo, who is also penning the Resident Evil reboot, said online, "Since it's already been stated by other members of the team, I'm gonna put this one to bed".

Space Invaders is considered one of the greatest arcade games in history, setting the precedent for many shooter games going into the future and was one of the earliest games to popularize the high score achievement that would become a major trend among young gamers in the 1980s.

When the original movie arrived in theaters back in 1995, it was fairly well received. Mortal Kombat's movie efforts have ranged from hilariously camp (Mortal Kombat) to the downright excruciating (Annihilation). While fans have a fondness for the old MK film, it was seriously gimped by its PG-13 rating.

In 2011, Kevin Tancharoen's Mortal Kombat: Legacy web series delivered a mature-themed take on the franchise. It aired for two seasons before Machinima expressed interest in a big-screen adaptation, which eventually got cancelled. A new Mortal Kombat movie is now under development and its screen writer has just confirmed that it will be R-rated. An R-rating for a Mortal Kombat film feels like the franchise finally flying its gory, bloody colors in the face of its controversies.
