Instead, the man purportedly demanded his parents gift him a Jaguar and evidently, the German alternative was not to his liking.

A young man reportedly pushed a new high-end BMW gifted to him by his family into a river in India because he wanted a Jaguar auto instead.

Video footage has been doing the rounds showing the vehicle sinking in a river in Yamunanagar, Haryana state in Northern India.

It had to be pulled out using a crane and police have opened an investigation.

"Akash was unhappy with his father for not buying him (a) Jaguar".

However, police said that the young man suffered from mental health issues and has been taking treatment for his "mentally disturbed" condition.

"He kept insisting that he be given a Jaguar, as a BMW is a little small for him and his friends inside", he said.

Police in the north Indian state of Haryana say the 22-year-old man, identified only as Akash, received a BMW from his parents as a birthday present.

A group of men begin pulling the auto from the river.

Police are now investigating the matter and it's unknown if the auto was retrieved from the river in working condition. "He deliberately pushed (the) luxury vehicle BMW into the river", a police report said.

"When the youth was plunging the high-end BMW vehicle into the river, he also made a video and put it on social media", a police official was quoted by the Indo-Asian News Service.

"We never imagined he would do anything like this".
