However, "Aladdin 2" may be inspired from the 1994 animation film that focused on return of Jafar.

Now, should a sequel happen, it wouldn't be a complete surprise that they would adapt The Return of Jafar, especially with the way Aladdin ended. Lin also assured fans that nothing they're going to do is going to be a "shot-for-shot anything".

Of course, Disney has yet to officially greenlight an Aladdin sequel, but it's not outside the realm of possibility. We certainly when we first made the movie wanted to just make the best movie we could and let audiences tell us if they wanted to see more. The latter involves Aladdin learning that his father is alive. But just know that we're looking at a lot of different source material and it's not going to be based on one singular source, but we're going to take the best of everything that's been done before and create something fresh and new. We're really looking at what's been done before in the past and the home video, and there's just more story to tell with the underlying materials. One of the biggest omissions was that we didn't get to see Jafar turn into a big snake to face off against Aladdin.

Is that something we could see in a potential sequel?

"The audience response has really touched us in thinking about where we can go with these stories", Lin added, "and we feel like these characters have more adventures in store".

Fans may not need to wait too much longer to hear more about Disney's upcoming live-action movies.

In case the hundreds of layoffs, the shuttering of Fox 2000, and all of the other awful shit Disney has done since acquiring 20th Century Fox earlier this year hasn't convinced you yet that the billion-dollar merger was a colossally bad thing for the film industry, a new report from Variety may do the trick for you.

Aladdin will be released on Digital on August 27th, followed by a DVD/Blu-ray/4K Ultra HD release on September 10. The Walt Disney Signature Collection version of the animated "Aladdin" will be available on Blu-ray September 10, as well.
