In a video shared on social media, the man, identified by India Today as Akash destroyed a BMW gifted to him by his parents because he wanted a Jaguar instead.

So a few months after receiving the £32,000 auto he drove it into the Western Yamuna Cana in Yamunanagar, India, and sent video of the incident to his parents. The owner later jumped into the river to help retrieve the gift, according to local reports.

Akash shared a video on social media of his brand new vehicle floating away.

But he was unhappy with the vehicle, say local police, because it was too small for him and his mates.

"When the youth was plunging the high-end BMW vehicle into the river, he also made a video and put it on social media", a police official was quoted by the Indo-Asian News Service.

In India, a BMW costs roughly $50,000 while a Jaguar can cost around $70,000.

The police said that there is no criminal case to pursue.

"We could only afford to give him a BMW, while he kept on insisting that he be given a Jaguar", he said.

"We thought there may be somebody in the auto, but when those engaged in rescue operations reached the vehicle they found none inside", a villager said. The auto was driven to the edge of the bank, and then pushed the rest of the way.

The son apparently had demanded a new Jaguar for his birthday and was unimpressed with the BMW, which he thought was too small. No charges appear to have been filed against the young man.
