The name 45 refers to the fact that it takes inspiration from the Hyundai Pony Coupe Concept that was first unveiled 45 years ago, while also referring to the 45-degree angles at the front and rear of the vehicle, which together form a diamond-shaped silhouette.

The Pony Coupe Concept, designed by the legendary Italdesign studio and inspired from the Delorean DMC-12, at that time was a showcase of what Hyundai wanted from its cars in the future and well 45 years later we are back here again!

As mentioned above, with the new concept, Hyundai is previewing the design of its future production electric models and is also highlighting future technological developments that "may influence" forthcoming production vehicles. Hyundai says the 45 is also inspired by aircraft from the 1920s, which is less obviously apparent than the other design cues. The new grille seems to suit its sporting addendums and there's redesigned bumpers at both ends, with a dinky diffuser at the rear.

A special touch inside is the active LED light garnish at the bottom of the door, which paints a very clear picture of how much charge remains in the car's battery.

These include the so-called Camera Monitoring System - basically, a system that replaces the side mirrors with small cameras and tries to overcome visibility challenges caused by dirt gathering on the mirror by using an embedded turntable module, which rotates the lens past a brush.

The interior is described by Hyundai as "a unique living space capable of transforming to accommodate a range of passenger lifestyle demands". Should you wish to be more social, the front seats can swivel 180 degrees to face passengers. Front occupants can enjoy infotainment via a projection-beam interface interface instead of a touchscreen.
